BTC’s Inter-School Pennant competition has now commenced with teams from Ballarat & Clarendon College and Ballarat Grammar School going head to head for this years title. Two teams from BCC plus another three teams from BGS will play off in a round robin format between now and years end – with the top two teams going through to a finals play-off.

Round 1 started off vigorously, with BCC 1 v BGS 3. Ballarat & Clarendon College youngster, James O’Grady took on Ballarat Grammar School  newby Tom Close in the first match of the day – with both players doing really well considering their ‘newness’ to the sport. The match went game for game until, at the end of the match, BCC found themselves up by just one game.

The doubles match of the afternoon was next on the agenda – with BCC players James O’Grady & Tom Parker taking on BGS young guns Stuart Dale & Liam Burke. This was another close affair – this time BGS getting up by one game.

The last singles match of the afternoon featured Tom Parker (BCC) v Richard Dugdale (BGS). Again, this match went right to the bell, with Richard finishing ahead this time 4/3.

The second match of the afternoon was between BGS 1 v BGS 2. Ali Watson and Tom Close kicked off proceedings with a very close game that was won by Ali in the end – winning 3/2.

The second singles game between Tom Hewitt and Anthony Shaw was a hard hitting affair. Tom’s serve proved too strong in the end though winning 3/2. The final doubles match pitted Tom Close/Anthony Shaw v Ali Watson/Tom Hewitt. This was a great match to watch and saw an improvement in standard from all four players on court. Tom and Anthony eventually took out the match 5/2.
