BTC was represented in the World Doubles Championships played at RMTC from February 1 to February 6.  The overwhelming favourites are World numbers 1 and 2 Rob Fahey and Steve Virgona who took out the Australian Open Doubles the week prior and have w0n the previous four World Doubles Championships.  Club pro Brett McFarlane and Daniel Williams teamed to play the number 2 seeds Julian Snow (inaugural World Doubles Champion in 2001, 14 times Open Doubles Champion) and the UK’s Ben Matthews (Winner US Open Doubles).  In a match of many long points with Julian and Daniel hitting corner to corner interspersed with Ben and Brett’s power hitting, the Ballarat pair were rolled 6/1 6/1 6/3 in what was a very creditable performance for a pair who had in fact never played together before, while Ben and Julian were the previous week’s Australian Open runners-up.

A few photos of the pair in action.
