There was so much sport played on the last weekend in September that the Herald Sun was published as a trilogy.

The VFL Grand Final, the Rugby League Semi Final and the AFL Grand Final were the curtain raisers to the eagerly anticipated Eureka & Larwood Cups. Saints and Geelong supporters politely sat through their match while waiting to see this ancient rivalry between BTC and RMTC men and women teams.  They say they like the fact that Real Tennis is politically correct with a male and female grand final with equal prize money … watch and learn Andrew Demetriou.

BTC win the Eureka Cup 41 games to 39 after the matches were 3-all.The Norm Smith Medal for best afield was awarded to Paul Williams. Club President Paul led from the front and won both his matches, narrowly taking the points from RMTC’s Simon Wallace. Photographing himself presenting the medal to himself the President said a DVD of his remarkable win would soon be available.

LARWOOD CUP

Claire Goodman/Alison Dugdale won over Evelyn Howard/Lesley O’Byrne   8-4

Cathy Faull/Annie Strange won over Fiona Hewson/Stephanie Williams   8-4

Annie Strange/Alison Dugdale won over Bronwen Peters/Stephanie Williams   8-4

BTC win the Larwood  Cup 4 matches  to 1. The Norma Smith Medal for best afield was won by Annie Strange in tight voting from Alison Dugdale and Cathy Faull. The Cup was mired in controversy when current BTC B Grade Champion Stephanie Williams frocked up and played in the RMTC Team. Stephanie claimed she became confused when both teams looked the same … but will try harder next year.

Our thanks to RMTC for the work to send such a big team and make it a such a memorable day.
