Tim Hurburgh & Wayne Spring |
The Australian Amateur Veterans Doubles was held at the Ballarat Tennis Club on Sunday August 9, 2009. In a small, but quality field – the pairs of Wayne Spring(BTC)/Tim Hurburgh(RMTC) took on Mike Garnett(BTC&RMTC)/Ian Bull(RMTC). |
Ian Bull & Mike Garnett |
Spring and Hurbugh started the match very strongly and although the match tightened up during the course of the first set – they managed to win the first set 6/2. |
Australian Amateur Veterans Doubles Finalists 2009 |
The start of the second set was considerably closer to begin with – but a nasty ball off Ian Bull’s own racquet that clipped him just under the eye was an un-needed distraction for the Garnett/Bull combination. Mike and Ian fought hard throughout the set – but were unable to overcome the constant pressure and finally succumbed 6/1. Final score: Spring/Hurburgh def Bull/Garnett 6/2 6/1. |
Ian Bull & BTC Club Captain, Alan Widmer |
BTC caterer, Sails On The Lake put on a fine lunch for all to enjoy afterwards – and just to prove that there is no keeping a good veteran down – all four finalists continued with some more tennis into the afternoon. Congratulations go to the new Australian Amateur Veterans Doubles Champions – Wayne Spring & Tim Hurburgh! |
